The use of environmentally harmful materials such as adhesives and synthetic coatings not only pollutes the environment when the product is disposed of, but also releases large amounts of pollutants during the manufacturing process.

That is why we use almost entirely untreated ash wood from the Jura region in western Switzerland as the basic component of our products.

Use of untreated ash wood

Ash wood has excellent properties that make it an ideal material for manufacturing furniture and acoustic furniture. It is hard, tough and has enough elasticity to withstand constant stress.

Ash wood is not only native to the region, and therefore has an ideal climate to thrive naturally and grow without any real external influence, ash trees also grow back quickly, meaning that we can talk about regenerative forestry.

The forest area in the Jura from which the ash wood originates has Swiss wood certification, which guarantees the origin of the wood used in each of our boxes. At the same time, it meets all the sustainability requirements for Swiss wood, which are regulated and guaranteed by the Forest Act (WaG). This is because ‘[…] with its forest policy, the federal government creates favourable conditions for the forest to fulfil its diverse functions for society, the economy, ecology and the climate. In doing so, it lays the foundations for sustainable, efficient and innovative forest management.’

Both the source of our wood and our factory are located within a radius of just 100 km. This not only ensures what is probably the most transparent and shortest supply chain in the industry, but also maximum efficiency in transport from the source to production.

We also source most of our components from Switzerland and England and only use non-European components for cabling. This allows us to keep distances short and enables fast, smooth processes, which of course benefits you when you place an order.

Recycled fabric with 70% recycled content

Our fabric is not only highly abrasion-resistant (ISO 12 947-2) and fire-retardant (Class 5 EN 13773), but also certified according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class II, which classifies it as particularly skin-friendly. The fabric’s properties make it ideal for long-term use under constant stress.

With a very high recycling content of 70%, we are able to offer a visually appealing, high-quality and ethically sound alternative to 100% virgin fabric.

2. What advantages does solid ash wood offer over products made from chipboard?

Solid ash wood is a robust, sustainable and durable material that is ideal for soundproofing products, not only because of its strikingly beautiful appearance, but also because of its density.

Ash wood also does not emit any chemical substances such as VOCs (volatile organic compounds), unlike coated chipboard. Ash wood can even withstand damage caused by rough force or accidents, as its hard, resistant surface means that it does not splinter as easily as chipboard or multilayer boards, for example. 3. Are Shelter Office products available immediately or are there long delivery times?

Our products currently have a standard delivery time of 6-8 weeks, but faster deliveries may be possible depending on availability.

Our goal is to work with you to complete each of your projects within the appropriate time frame, and we will always discuss the exact delivery period transparently with you when you place your order and again shortly before the delivery date.
