Double Office Pod for 2 People

The Shelter Double Office Pod is designed for two people, with a floor area of approximately 2.2 m² (external dimensions: 220 × 100 × 230 cm). At the same time, it can also function as a single workstation with a monitor mount featuring a swivel arm, serving as a hybrid solution. It is particularly well-suited for confidential one-on-one conversations: HR meetings, coaching sessions, banking consultations, or legal consultations. For other use cases, the Single Pod (1 person) and the Team Pod (up to 4 people) are available.

The Double Pod achieves 30 dB according to ISO 23351-1 Class A, the highest class in the standard for speech privacy in office cubicles. A normal conversation of around 60 dB is reduced to a whisper level of about 30 dB. Class A is the standard for confidential conversations in which clear speech recognition from outside must not be possible. The effect has been proven: In a field study, cognitive performance increased by about 17% when moving to a quiet zone and by about 22% when in a private, enclosed room (Jahncke & Hallman, 2020). Another study shows that quiet zones reduce distractions and stress symptoms in open-plan offices (Haapakangas et al., 2018).

The Double Pod is made primarily of certified Swiss ash wood (with a Swiss Wood Certificate), along with brass, glass, and stainless steel. The acoustic glass (37 dB Rw) comes from Switzerland. While many pods rely on particleboard or coated steel, we use solid wood. It lasts longer, doesn’t splinter, feels better, and ages more gracefully.

The Double Pod is manufactured in Switzerland and is Swiss Label certified (Swiss-made). The ash wood comes from certified forests and bears the Swiss Wood Certificate. As with all our models, we prioritize short shipping distances and durable materials.

The Double Pod costs CHF 12,740 to purchase (excluding VAT) or starts at CHF 259 per month under the rental plan (5-year term). When depreciated over 7 to 10 years, the purchase effectively amounts to about CHF 100 to 140 per month—which is cheaper than any rental. A comparable drywall room costs CHF 15,000 to 30,000 and is neither portable nor exempt from permitting requirements.

Materials, Acoustics, and Technology. The Double Pod is made of solid ash wood, whereas most booths are made of particleboard or coated steel. It meets ISO 23351-1 Class A, the highest acoustic rating, making it particularly well-suited for confidential one-on-one conversations. No, and that's a deliberate choice. The Double Pod is maintenance-free: no touchscreens, no software updates, no IT maintenance. Ventilation and lighting operate independently of any software. In pods with a touchscreen, it is precisely this electronic system that often becomes the weak point—if it fails, the ventilation and lighting can partly stop working too.

The ventilation system refreshes the air every 45 seconds (383 m³/h) and operates almost silently. Even during longer meetings with four people, the air remains fresh, with no audible fan noise inside or outside.

The Double Pod features 2× 30W fast-charging USB-C ports and 1× 230V outlet (additional outlets available as an option; LAN available upon request). The lighting consists of 2 dimmable LEDs providing up to 500 lux on the table. The height-adjustable solid wood table offers space for both a laptop and a monitor; a fixed or swivel monitor mount is available upon request.

Delivery in Switzerland takes about 6 weeks, and on-site assembly takes about 120 minutes. Shorter delivery times are possible depending on availability. Since the pod is on casters, it can be moved around the office at any time.

No. The Double Pod is a freestanding piece of furniture with no connection to the building’s utilities: no water, no ventilation, no heating, and no drilling into walls or ceilings. Legally, it is considered movable furniture (a “room-within-a-room” solution), not a structural alteration. This means that neither a building permit nor approval is required, not even in rental properties. When you move out, there are no dismantling costs and no conflicts with the landlord, because you are not making any alterations to the building structure. If you need to change locations, you can easily take the pod with you thanks to its casters and the fact that it can be disassembled. We’re happy to install features such as sprinklers or smoke detectors if needed.

The Double Pod comes with a 2-year warranty. All components are modular and interchangeable, which makes repairs and long-term use easy. The Pod is certified by, among others, Swiss Label (Swiss-made), the Swiss Wood Certificate, REACH compliance, and CE for the electrical components. The upholstery fabric is fire-rated according to EN 1021-1/2 and BS 5852, OEKO-TEX® certified, and extremely abrasion-resistant with over 100,000 Martindale cycles (EN ISO 12947-2).

Yes. As a piece of movable office furniture with a useful life of several years, the Double Pod is typically classified as a fixed asset in the Swiss context and depreciated over its useful life (typically 7 to 10 years). Compared to a permanently installed drywall meeting room (CHF 15,000 to 30,000, non-mobile, requiring a permit), the Pod is typically 40 to 60% less expensive over a 5-year period and remains flexible.
